Terms of service

The terms for using this website and for the vehicle transport Clutch arranges for you.

Effective October 1, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of clutchautotransport.com and the vehicle transport services Clutch Auto Transport LLC ("Clutch," "we," "us") arranges for you. By using the site, requesting a quote, or booking a shipment, you agree to these Terms. Business customers with a signed agreement are governed by that agreement where it differs from these Terms.

Clutch is a licensed broker

Clutch Auto Transport LLC is a licensed property broker registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (USDOT 2227267, MC-398927). Clutch arranges the transport of your vehicle with independent motor carriers that hold their own federal operating authority. Clutch does not itself transport vehicles or take possession of them. The motor carrier assigned to your shipment has custody of your vehicle from pickup to delivery.

Every carrier we assign must have active operating authority and cargo insurance, which we verify before assignment.

Quotes

A quote is an estimate based on the information you give us and current carrier rates on your route. It is not a booking and does not reserve a carrier. A quote is valid for 7 days unless it says otherwise.

Your rate is confirmed when you book and we confirm your order in writing. After that, the rate changes only if the shipment differs from what was quoted, for example if the vehicle does not run, is larger or modified, or the locations, dates, or transport type change. We will tell you about any change before it applies.

Booking and payment

Your order confirmation states your rate, what is due, and when. Payment terms for business accounts are set by the account agreement. If a balance is due at delivery and is not paid, the carrier may hold the vehicle until payment is made.

Pickup and delivery dates

Pickup and delivery dates are estimates. Carriers work around weather, traffic, road conditions, mechanical issues, hours-of-service rules, and other shipments on the same truck, so we cannot guarantee specific dates unless your order confirmation expressly states a guaranteed date. We will keep you informed of changes. Clutch and the carrier are not responsible for costs caused by delays, such as rental cars, lodging, or lost time.

You or someone you designate, age 18 or older, must be available to release the vehicle at pickup and to receive it at delivery. If the carrier cannot access the location safely, you may be asked to meet the truck at a nearby safe location.

Changes and cancellations

You may change or cancel a booking at no charge before a carrier has been assigned. After a carrier has been assigned, a cancellation fee may apply as stated in your order confirmation. If a carrier arrives for pickup and the vehicle is not available, not released, or not as described, a dry run fee may apply.

Preparing your vehicle

You agree that:

  • The vehicle information you give us is accurate, including whether the vehicle runs, drives, brakes, and steers, and any modifications that change its size or weight
  • The vehicle has no leaks and is safe to load and transport
  • Personal belongings are removed. Carriers are not licensed to transport household goods, and personal items are not covered by carrier insurance
  • The vehicle contains no hazardous materials, weapons, or illegal items
  • Alarms and toll tags are disabled or removed, and the fuel level is about one quarter of a tank or less

Extra charges may apply if the vehicle does not match its description, for example an inoperable vehicle that requires a winch.

Inspection and the bill of lading

At pickup, the driver inspects the vehicle and records its condition on the bill of lading. Please inspect the vehicle with the driver and keep your copy.

At delivery, inspect the vehicle carefully before signing, including in poor light if needed. Any damage must be noted on the bill of lading at delivery. Signing the bill of lading without noting damage is evidence that the vehicle was delivered in the condition recorded at pickup. Take photos of any damage.

Damage and claims

The motor carrier is responsible for loss of or damage to your vehicle while it is in the carrier's custody, subject to the carrier's cargo insurance and the terms of carriage. To make a claim:

  1. Note the damage on the bill of lading at delivery.
  2. Notify Clutch in writing within 7 days of delivery, with photos and your copy of the bill of lading.
  3. Clutch will open and manage the claim with the carrier and its insurer from first notice to resolution.

Claims do not cover pre-existing damage recorded at pickup, mechanical or electrical failure not caused by the carrier, personal items left in the vehicle, or damage that was not noted at delivery, unless it could not reasonably have been seen at delivery and is reported within the 7-day window.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law:

  • Clutch acts as a broker and is not liable for loss of or damage to your vehicle in transit, which is the carrier's responsibility as described above. Clutch is responsible for its own negligence in arranging your shipment.
  • Clutch is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, such as rental cars, lodging, lost wages, or lost profits.
  • Clutch's total liability for any claim arising from a shipment will not exceed the amount you paid to Clutch for that shipment.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms. The version posted when you book applies to that shipment.
