Moving & Relocation
Your household goods are already on a truck. Your car can be too, instead of you driving it 1,800 miles.
Pick the reason you are shipping. The answer changes depending on whether you are relocating, buying out of state, heading to school, or chasing the weather.
Clutch Auto Transport ships vehicles for individuals across all 48 continental states, door to door, on either open or enclosed carriers. You can get a price online in about a minute without speaking to anyone. Clutch is part of the Dircks family of companies, which has been moving households and businesses since 1990, so the same carrier vetting and insurance standards used on business accounts apply to a single personal vehicle.
Clutch Auto Transport LLC is a licensed property broker. Every figure above is verifiable on the FMCSA SAFER company snapshot.
Active operating authority, current cargo insurance verified at source, and FMCSA safety history checked before a carrier is ever assigned to your vehicle.
In the rare event of damage, Clutch manages the claims process from first notice to resolution, coordinating directly with the carrier and the insurer. You do not chase it.
Business accounts track every vehicle in the Clutch Transport Portal. No calling dispatch to find out where a car is.
One person who knows your account, not a general queue that restarts the conversation every time you call.

You have a relocation package and you are handling the move yourself. The car is one line of it, and it is usually the last one figured out.
You found the right car. It is just in the wrong state. We pick it up from the dealer, seller, or auction.
No special situation. You just need the car to end up somewhere else, safely and on a known timeline.
Two homes, one car, twice a year. Book the season instead of scrambling every October and April.
Get the car to campus without a parent burning a week of vacation driving it there and flying home.
Enter the two locations, the vehicle, and roughly when. You will get a price without a phone call.
Pick your first available date. We assign a vetted carrier already running your route.
The driver walks the vehicle with you and documents its condition before it loads.
Same inspection at the other end. You confirm condition, sign, and you are done.
The factors that actually move the price, and why the cheapest quote is often the one that does not get picked up.
Transit time by distance, plus what makes a shipment run late.
What to remove, what to leave, and what to photograph before the driver arrives.
As a rule, no. Carriers are licensed and insured to haul vehicles, not household goods, and items inside the car are generally not covered. Some carriers allow a small amount of personal property in the trunk, under roughly 100 pounds, but this must be agreed in advance. If you need household goods moved too, Clutch is part of Dircks, which does exactly that.
You, or someone you authorize who is at least 18, needs to be present at both ends to walk the vehicle with the driver and sign the inspection report. That report is what protects you if there is ever a damage question.
As close as legally and physically possible. A full-size car hauler is around 75 feet long, so narrow residential streets, low branches, and HOA restrictions sometimes mean meeting at a nearby shopping center or other open lot. The driver will coordinate that with you.
Not necessarily. Inoperable vehicles can be shipped, but they require a carrier with a winch and cost more, so tell us upfront rather than at pickup.
Two locations, one vehicle, and roughly when. That is all it takes to get a number.
